Most know of winemaker/vintner Helen Keplinger from her Cabernet winemaking efforts at Bryant Family Vineyard, Kerr Cellars, and Grace Family but it’s her own brand, Keplinger Wines and now Vermillion, that is even more exciting. The 2019 Vermillion is a gorgeous Syrah blend that opens in the glass with aromas of wild strawberry, licorice, blood orange, Earl Grey tea, black raspberry, cinnamon stick, and spice box. The tannins are silky and offers layers of berries, dried flower, baking spices, and terra cotta underpinned by fine tannins and a long, sweet, and savory finish. Vermillion is made from small lots sourced from 10 different vineyards in Napa, Sonoma, and the Sierra Foothills. It is aged in 100% French oak barrels in a cold cellar for 16 months before being bottled without fining or filtration. This is an awesome-drinking, delicious release that should be considered your next Monday through Sunday wine.
