This was the standout wine at the recent Taste of Oakville in May within its price point, easily rivaling Cabernets from the appellation at twice the cost. Ulysses comes to us from Christian Moueix, owner of Dominus Estate, and is sourced from the historic Ulysses Vineyard in Oakville—once part of the 1800s Charles Hopper Ranch and acquired by Moueix in 2008. Nestled along the Oakville bench at the base of the Mayacamas Range, the vineyard’s deep, gravelly clay loam soils are ideally suited to Cabernet, producing wines of remarkable depth and distinction.

Since acquiring the estate, Moueix and his team have devoted themselves to understanding the soils and microclimate, undertaking a meticulous, long-term restoration. At the heart of Ulysses’ sustainable farming is dry farming, which encourages deep root systems and drought resilience, resulting in a wine that authentically expresses its terroir.

Comprised primarily of Cabernet Sauvignon with small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the 2021 release is stunning—high-toned and luminous, with focused red berries, a flinty edge, and an elegant, lingering finish.
