TOR'Black Magic' Red 2019

This is a stunning wine and even more interesting considering it comes from two of the best grower vineyards in Napa Valley- Beckstoffer To Kalon and Vine Hill Ranch Vineyard. It is a co-fermented blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc from these two Oakville vineyards. Tor Kenward and his winemaker, Jeff Ames, don’t make Black Magic every year. The last vintage they made this special barrel lot was in 2018. As Tor explains, “Our greatest pleasure is to walk through the cellars and taste barrel by barrel. It’s rare, but sometimes one barrel will stop us in our tracks. In all the barrel lots made from our legendary sites, seldom more than three or four accomplish this in any given year. These distinct barrels, of course, all hail from Napa Valley’s greatest vineyards. There is no rhyme or reason why these singular barrels come together to defy the laws of nature. It’s a phenomenon that can’t be fully explained. True magic.” The 2018 offers a “kaleidoscopic array of red, blue, and black fruits, notes of sandalwood, graphite, iron, and tobacco leaf, full-bodied richness, silky tannins, and a monster of a finish. The balance here is spot on, it has the supple, round, classic 2019 mouthfeel, and while it's already a sensational drink, it's going to evolve for 25+ years. It's another incredible wine from this team.” -Jeb Dunnuck. 250 cases were produced.
