RuddMt. Veeder Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2016

At 1600 feet in elevation, it is an anomaly to find Sauvignon Blanc grown on such exceptional Mt. Veeder soil. Yet when vintner Leslie Rudd was first figuring out what to plant on this newly acquired land, he reached out to Didier Dagueneau, long considered one of the best Sauvignon Blanc producers in the world to ask him to visit the property. Immediately upon his visit, Didier told Leslie that the soil reminded him of his own in France's Loire Valley and with careful farming, he could produce exceptional Sauvignon Blanc and that is exactly what Leslie did despite knowing that he would never get the value of his land from farming a White instead of a Napa Valley Red. This 2016 is a perfect example of a great White coming from a predominately red grape-driven valley. Orange blossom and mineral notes glide on the palate with balanced acidity and ripeness. It is a complex White that will continue to evolve in the bottle with 5-6 more years of aging.
