After many years working with winemaker Russell Bevan, Kimberly Hatcher went out on her own to launch Morgado Cellars. Her primary job has been as a firefighter in San Francisco for the past 22 years. But her flexible schedule allows her to “put boots on the ground in all the vineyards she works with as the canopy develops during the summer months. She then uses all her vacation time during harvest to make her artisanal wines. Thanks to her relationship with Russell Bevan, Kimberly was able to source fruit from the highly regarded Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard. Sugarloaf is in the South Napa hills. It is a rockpile with full sun exposure and a soil profile that makes it a special site for top wine grape growing.  From the rocky exposed face of Sugarloaf Mountain, this marriage of Merlot and Cabernet Franc offers aromas of fresh from the oven German Chocolate cake, with a Bing cherry glaze. “Heritage leather, bay leaf, and pipe tobacco wrap around a core of sundried cherries, persimmon, and end of season plum. Mouthwatering acidity carries the density of this wine and delivers the minerality and polished tannins from start to finish. While delicious upon release, this wine possesses a mystically restrained core that will reveal itself opulently over decades.” 250 cases were produced.
