Margerum'M5' Santa Barbara County Red 2020

Since the 2001 inaugural vintage, Doug Margerum has been producing consistently, delicious wines from Santa Barbara County that can be enjoyed upon opening. M5 is his flagship label and consists of five varietals. For the 2019 vintage, it is a blend of 49% Grenache, 31% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre, 5% Counoise, and 5% Cinsault. Santa Barbara County had a cool spring and mild summer temperatures that extended the growing season. Harvest began in the last half of August and the weather that followed had the usual summer heat waves. It was a very quick and even harvest with yields that were average to below average helping to produce pronounced flavors and aromatics. Aromas of red fruits, dried cranberries, and jammy, youthful wild berries come immediately fill the glass, with perfumed Grenache and rose petal floral aromas. On the palate, you’ll taste notes of dark red fruit surrounded by youthful tannins. The overlying presence of Grenache flavors initially impact the palate, followed by a finish complete with hints of jam, cocoa, and dark berry contributions of Syrah and earthy Mourvèdre.
