Hundred Acre'Wraith' Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

2016 marks the fourth vintage of Wraith, the culmination of blending select barrels from Hundred Acre’s three single vineyard Cabernets – Kayli Morgan, Few & Far Between and Ark Vineyards. For the last decade, vintner Jayson Woodbridge tried to create a blend from select barrels from Kayli Morgan and Ark Vineyards, but he didn’t like how they turned out. It wasn’t until the 2013 vintage with the additional Few & Far Between that he completed a blend he thought was truly exceptional. We had the opportunity to taste this new release and can easily say that it was the best wine showing in a great line-up of wines. It seems to take on the best characteristics of what each single vineyard provides. As vintner Jayson Woodbridge explained, “2016 was the kind of year where even a blind squirrel can find a nut, so most wineries could coast along and make good wine. We don’t coast, so 2016 was an epic vintage for us, one for the ages. This was aged for 40 months in the finest French oak barrique. The stave wood is hand-selected for ultra-tight grain, then air dried for three years before being made into barrels.”
