FormanNapa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

The positioning of Forman Vineyard above an ancient riverbed was particularly beneficial in the lush rain-filled 2019 vintage. The gravelly earth offered great draining ability, drawing the roots deeply into the earth in search of nutrients. The cooling effect of the rainfall also offered late ripening and plenty of time for development of ripeness in this truly spectacular vintage. Harvest took place over the course of nearly a month between September 21 and October 15. Ric opted for 75% new French oak, 25% once used and a final blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot, 9% Merlot.

He began his winemaking journey in the 1960s while still studying fermentation sciences, working at Stony Hill and Robert Mondavi. He later spent time in Europe learning traditional techniques while helping to develop Sterling Vineyards and, later, Newton. In 1978, driven to realize his own vision, Ric founded Forman Vineyard at the base of Howell Mountain. Today, his wines remain small-batch, elegant, and consistently overdeliver.
