Caterwaul Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 - K. Laz Wine Collection

With the majority of grapes hailing from St. Helena, the 2018 Caterwaul Napa Valley is very expressive upon first pour. A tantalizing perfume of fresh blackberry and dark cherry jump from the glass with notes of cedar and burnt tobacco rounding out the nose. On the palate the wine is medium to full bodied with crème de cassis and dark berry tones giving way to velvety tannins that lead into a bright and refreshing finish. For the 2018 vintage, Thomas and Matt saw the vines arise from their winter slumber in February and as late spring approached, flowering yielded uniform grape clusters. The mild and warm summer gave way to a steady harvest season that afforded the grapes extended hang time. A near picture-perfect growing season characterized the 2018 vintage. They're incredibly excited to watch this 2018 develop as they refine and explore what is possible with their vineyard sites.

Thomas Rivers Brown, winemaker for some of Napa Valley and Sonoma’s most iconic labels including Schrader Cellars, Maybach, Pulido-Walker and his own winery, Rivers-Marie, has more than 20 100-point wines to his resume. Matt Hardin, a 6th generation Napa resident and farmer, is a partner in Barbour Vineyards, one of the most renowned vineyard management companies in Northern California which has farmed and developed some of the most iconic vineyards in Napa Valley. Working together for more than the last decade over numerous projects, their friendship developed. Out of that friendship, the idea of working together and utilizing the strengths of the other, Caterwaul was born. Their debut vintage was 2014 and they produced one single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from Stags Leap District's Regusci Vineyard, with a mere 260 case production.
