Brilliant Mistake Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 Napa Valley - K. Laz Wine Collection

We tasted this new vintage release with vintners John and Stacy Reinert two weeks ago, when they met with me at the tasting room. The head of winemaking for all of Philippe Melka’s Atelier Melka is Maayan Koschitzky and this 2014 vintage marks his first vintage making wine for Brilliant Mistake.Lush and velvety, this full-bodied Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon comes from Rutherford and Stags Leap District and immediately offers an “expressive nose full of black current and ripe purple berries, raspberries & dark cocoa, hints of tarragon, cedar and tobacco with an undertone of caramel, and a hint of cinnamon bark.” The tannins are well integrated into the wine offering a smooth, seamless mouthfeel. When I asked John about the reason for the name he told me that when he approached Stacy with the idea of wanting to do this, she said "do it, don't have any regrets. It's either a brilliant idea or a mistake. Worst case we'll have a garage full of wine." 110 cases were produced of this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon.
