Abreu ‘Madrona Ranch’ Red 2021
Madrona Ranch, tucked at the base of Spring Mountain was the first estate vineyard established by Abreu, planted in 1980. The vast array of elevations and exposures in the vineyard make for a unique and complex wine year after year. This bottling underwent the same co-fermentation as all the winery’s blends. David Abreu and winemaker Brad Grimes have always understood wine as part of a gastronomic experience, and as such, winemaking is approached similarly to cooking. David likens fermenting different varieties together to braising all vegetables together to build complex flavors in a coq au vin. After fermentation, the wine undergoes aging for 2 years in new French Oak. Intense color, concentration and energy characterize this exceptional vintage whose final blend is comprised of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot, and 2% Merlot.

Abreu ‘Cappella’ Red 2021
‘Cappella,’ first planted in 1869, is one of the oldest vineyard sites in St. Helena. Ironically, the vineyard sits next to a historic cemetery, bringing bright, verdant new life each spring. Vines thrive in the gravelly loam soil. In 2021, harvest spanned a full two weeks with a final blend composed of 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Petit Verdot. Cappella always produces an ethereal wine whose extreme elegance against incredible concentration is mind-boggling. In 2021, this amazing concentration is in hyper-drive from the tiny berry size this vintage.

Abreu ‘Rothwell Hyde’ Red 2021
Rothwell Hyde is a blend of the four Abreu estate vineyards, but don’t be fooled into thinking of this as a ‘second wine.’ The blend is produced with the same thoughtful precision as the single-vineyard bottlings. At its core are two co-fermentations from Madrona Ranch and Cappella, picked at the height of harvest (September 18 andSeptember 22), with select barrels from Las Posadas and Thorevilos layered in for depth and energy. The 2021 Rothwell Hyde is a true expression of the vintage: 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Cabernet Franc, 8% Petit Verdot, 6% Malbec, and 3% Merlot.
