Abreu'Rothwell Hyde' Red 2016

This library offering of Abreu Rothwell Hyde is comprised of fruit from the legendary viticulturist David Abreu’s Cappella and Madrona Ranch in the western side of St. Helena and Las Posadas Vineyard on Howell Mountain. Winemaker Brad Grimes has captured all the Abreu single vineyard signatures into one bottle, and they are just beginning to show their potential. This library release is mainly Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot rounding out the profile. The Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot comes from Madrona Ranch and Cappella and the Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot comes from Las Posadas. Scents of blue fruit, graphite, charcoal dominate the palate with supple tannins that will mellow out with more time in the bottle or with an hour-long decant. Like in previous vintages, this is a leader in its price point because of its style, structure, and aging potential.

While single vineyards show one moment in time for one specific plot of land, the culmination of vineyards from one winery carefully blended also provides us with a unique snapshot of one vintage in time, from one estate. Rothwell Hyde is just that for Abreu Vineyards. It is the sum of all parts, weaved together by winemaker Brad Grimes. Given the unique perspectives of all their estate vineyards, this bottling is a must-try, especially given this generous vintage.
