SLOAN Estate Red 2013
We have had the pleasure of tasting this wine in line-ups with other Cult Cabs of similar caliber and Sloan continues to be one of the best if not the best in the group. Sloan's ability to age gracefully is one of the best characteristics of this wine. The 2013 Estate Red comes from their 13-acre Rutherford eastern hillside vineyard that was planted in the late 90's by David Abreu and continues to be produced by Martha McClellan with Michel Rolland consulting. Elevation there ranges from 875 to 995 feet. It is a spectacular property with a full range of exposures for the fruit to thrive. The 2013 is a signature Sloan offering with richly focused black and blue fruit, graphite, cocoa dusting and sweet cedar. It is comprised of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. "The notes of black truffle, charcoal, incense, blackberry and cassis fruit are followed by a full-bodied, stunningly proportioned wine that is loaded, incredibly pure and well-delineated. It is a killer effort from Sloan and probably capable of matching their great efforts in 2001, 2002 and 2007." Wine Advocate.
