Shared Notes 'Les Lecons de Maitres' Sauvignon Blanc 2014
Russian River Valley – 750mL
We enjoyed this on Thanksgiving night and think this is one of the best SBs currently coming out of California. This exciting new Sauvignon Blanc project is brought to us by husband and wife team Jeff Pisoni and Bibiana Gonzalez Rave. They chose to make Sauvignon Blanc together because neither have worked on producing it for their own wineries (Pahlmeyer, Wayfarer, Pisoni) and they loved the idea of bringing to the table two distinctly different SBs. This Les leçons des maîtres (or Lessons from the Masters) is a take on White Bordeaux and after tasting it, it is an incredible effort. They also produce a Loire Valley-style SB reminiscent of the great Dagueneaus. (Please ask for pricing if you’re interested in their Loire-style SB.) The 2014 “Les leçons des maîtres” is a blend of 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Semillon. “The aromas are a stunning and vivacious array of white peach, passion fruit, green mango, honeydew melon, lemon oil. On the palate is a savory and tight display of texture and flavor, with highlights of orange zest throughout a firmly structured finish.” 132 cases were produced.
