Poe Van der Kamp Pinot Noir 2013Sonoma

We just had the opportunity to re-taste this really precisely made Pinot Noir and again really enjoyed it. Vintner and winemaker Samantha Sheehan (not to be confused with Gather’s Jessica Shaheen) is all about focusing on single vineyard Pinot and really letting the vineyards be the stars in each bottling. Van der Kamp Vineyard has long been considered a great Pinot site thanks in part to its 1300 feet elevation on Spring Mountain. This 2013 offers “high-toned red fruits laced with orange zest, oolong tea and forest floor-earth notes”. It is silky and elegant and fills the glass with genuine Pinot personality. Of the single vineyard Pinots Samantha makes, this is my favorite. We especially enjoy it at this price point as you won’t find a single vineyard Van der Kamp Pinot this well-priced.
