G.B. Crane Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 Napa Valley

This second vintage comes from Dave Phinney's new estate vineyard in west St. Helena and offers "Stoic, the 2013 GB Crane Cabernet Sauvignon opens with a layered nose of ripe black plum, blackcurrants, allspice and fir. Massive upon entry, the textured palate floods with flavors of blackberry compote and hints of pomegranate, complicated by strings of brambly fruit. Ever evolving on both the nose and palate, the baking chocolate structure has integrated tannins that will soften in time.” Of the eight acres in production, approximately four acres contain a mixture of G.B. Crane’s original plantings with newer (1930) plantings interspersed. This four-acre block has been continuously farmed for one hundred and thirty years. As well as the four-acre old vine section there is also a 1.6-acre block of Cabernet Sauvignon, a 1.4-acre block of Petite Sirah, and two rows of Merlot.” 250 cases were produced.
