Detert is tucked into the hillside of the famed ToKalon Vineyard in Oakville and for years, grapes were sold to Mondavi Winery’s Reserve program. Since 2001, winemaker/vintner Tom Garrett along with his family have been keeping some fruit back for their own wine, Detert. Detert is considered to have the oldest plantings of Cabernet Franc in Napa Valley and produces one of the best single varietal offerings. “Composed of 100% Cabernet Franc, the deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Cabernet Franc is redolent of warm redcurrants, chocolate-covered cherries, black raspberries and pencil shavings with hints of rose hip tea and unsmoked cigars. The medium to full-bodied palate possesses lovely tension and a solid frame of chewy tannins, finishing long and earthy.”
