Cervantes Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 - K. Laz Wine Collection
This is the debut vintage of Cervantes made by winemaker Andy Erickson (of Dalla Valle, Favia and Arietta). When vintner Xavier Cervantes was scouting properties in Napa, he looked in all the usual hallowed ground for vineyards: Oakville, Rutherford, Pritchard Hill before finally purchasing land in Pope Valley, the far eastern reaches of Napa County at the edge of the county’s viable viticultural land. It rests above Calistoga on the eastern side of the Palisades. The Cervantes family works with Andy Erickson as their winemaker and this 2016 marks their inaugural winery vintage. A blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, "the deep garnet-purple colored 2016 MMXVI Cabernet Sauvignon gives up gregarious notions of warm red and black currants, black raspberries and warm plums with hints of chocolate mint, pencil shavings and tilled loam plus a waft of lilacs. Full-bodied, firm and grainy, the palate is built like a brick house with super ripe, super firm tannins and bags of bold, expressive, multifaceted fruit, finishing very long and mineral-laced." 545 cases were made. 96+ Points, Wine Advocate.
